Position Description

Springfield, VT: We’re looking for a compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join the Behavioral Health team with this award-winning 25-bed community hospital in beautiful southeastern Vermont (near the New Hampshire border). This health system includes a 10-site FQHC network which, along with the hospital, provides care to over 40,000 area residents. Join an innovative organization that is patient-centered and emphasizes quality, access, and affordability for all.

Confident new graduates and those requiring NHSC support are encouraged to apply.

Enjoy a convenient 4 day/week weekday schedule! This is a primarily outpatient practice developing and implementing psychopharmacological consultation plans for patients of all ages. You will also serve as a key member of an integrated care team, consulting with primary care providers, nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, lifestyle medicine providers, and various other specialists. In addition, you will participate in periodic support/call coverage of a small inpatient unit (adults only, 10 beds). This unit does not take highly acute patients (with violent or disruptive behaviors). In fact, they have a good track record of not needing to use restraints. You will cover very light call one night/week (entirely by phone), and for 1 in 5 weekends, you will round on the inpatient center, managing occasional admissions. Additional pay is provided for each of these call duties!

We are offering:

  • Secure hospital employment in scenic small-town New England
  • Paid relocation to beautiful Vermont
  • Excellent 4 day/week schedule – call shared 1:5!
  • Enjoyable practice with an outpatient focus
  • Very competitive salary PLUS pay for call!
  • Paid liability insurance
  • Health, dental, disability and life insurance
  • Participation in a retirement plan
  • Paid vacation time and paid holidays
  • Additional paid leave with a budget for your CME
  • Student loan assistance / NHSC eligibility available!

Springfield is a historic town of 10,000 in southeastern Vermont. This picturesque community features wonderful period architecture dating to the 1800s and earlier. A scenic river winds through town and over a 100+ foot waterfall on its way to the Connecticut River, which designates Vermont’s eastern border with New Hampshire. These waterways, along with picturesque hills nearby, provide an enjoyable range of recreational activities from hiking and horseback riding to mountain biking, camping, fishing and hunting, plus kayaking, skiing and snowmobiling. Check out the local golf courses, or take up birdwatching! There is something for everyone to enjoy in every season.

Springfield hosts Vermont’s annual Apple festival, along with their own fun Winter Carnival. Join a community with a “buy-local” spirit, farm-to-table markets, and a very low crime rate – with affordable homes, and friendly, welcoming neighborhoods. Springfield is half an hour from Hanover, NH – home of Dartmouth College – one of the Ivy League colleges founded before the American Revolution.

Springfield is 100 minutes from Manchester (the largest city in northern New England), about 2 hours from the seacoast, and 2.5 hours from Boston. Remember, there is no sales tax when you go shopping in neighboring New Hampshire!
