Diabetic Shoes and DME

The VNPA Board just got the following notice from AANP and wanted to pass along to those who are interested.  Thanks!

Diabetic shoes are not included in the certain DME items that H.R. 2 repealed. The barrier for diabetic shoes will require distinct and separate legislation which the Fed Gov't Affairs Office is currently working on with Members of Congress, relevant committees of jurisdiction, and the associated congressional caucuses. Unfortunately, what your NP is experiencing is correct – the current regulation authorizes solely physicians as providers for certification of these shoes.

We (AANP) are VERY close to having legislation in place. AANP Members will be notified when the legislation has dropped and how you can go about urging your Members of Congress to support and cosponsor it.
