Register now for Understanding Overdose Risk and Medication Efficacy, a new JCOIN e-course created by the Addiction Policy Forum in partnership with the Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center. The CSG Justice Center is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that combines the power of a membership association with policy and research expertise to develop strategies that increase public safety and strengthen communities.

State and local leaders play a critical role in reducing overdose deaths and promoting evidence-based practices to treat people with substance use disorders (SUD) in their communities. This course provides an introduction to opioid use disorder treatment and medications, as well as shares testimonies from individuals with lived experience about their experiences with treatment and how it played a significant role in their recovery.

Goals of the course:

  • Understand factors that contribute to the development of SUDs.
  • Improve knowledge about the effectiveness of OUD treatment.
  • Learn about types of OUD treatment and the three FDA-approved medications for OUD (MOUD; methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone).

Course length: 45 minutes

Certificate of Completion: yes
