EXIT MATTERS
Facing the End with Humor and Heart
|
|
Whether we like to think about it or not, life has a final chapter. At Patient Choices Vermont (PCV), we know that how that chapter unfolds depends upon the people, support, and choices that surround us. That’s why we are launching Exit Matters, a new on-line series:
Starting in September, PCV will host monthly online sessions on topics related to end-of-life issues. Each month we’ll provide an overview of Act 39 and medical aid in dying in Vermont, along with time for discussion and clarification, followed by a presentation from guest speakers on a variety of related topics. These sessions are an opportunity to discover how we can cultivate the kind of support that we hope will bring community and wholeness to our final chapter.
Here are the dates and topics for this Fall’s sessions:

Heather Hogan and Carter Oakley, documentary filmmakers of Death Differently.
Death is inevitable; suffering may be optional. Death Differently is a documentary series highlighting alternative approaches to death, dying, and grief. Their film Other Side shows the journey of Lynda Bluestein, the first non-resident to access MAiD in Vermont. Carter and Heather will join us to discuss their work and the making of this beautiful and authentic film. Other Side is about to tour Vermont with screenings in Burlington, Montpelier, and Brattleboro. Stay tuned to upcoming newsletters for more information.

What is a Death Doula?
Hosted by Kasey March, head doula of Doula Care for Dying, and Lindsey Warren, doula, sound healer, and Reiki healing arts level 2 practitioner of Journey with Compassion.
Join Kasey and Lindsey for an informative and heartfelt conversation exploring the role of a death doula, also known as an end of life doula. Kasey and Lindsey will share how death doulas provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families facing the end of life. This program will help demystify what a death doula does, why this work is becoming more widely recognized, and how compassionate, non-medical support can bring comfort, dignity, and peace during one of life’s most profound transitions.
