Vermont Health Dept initiates ICD-10 Training

Posted over 4 years ago by Deborah Wachtel

Vermont’s Medicaid program is working with BC/BS and MVP to coordinate system readiness for payment processing for many effected professions in Vermont including: hospitals, primary and specialty medical care, mental health, long term care, home health and independent providers including chiropractors, physical therapists, and others who current bill using ICD-9 code sets.  John Olson from the VDH  and Catherine West, Director of Medicaid Reimbursement Office is working with BC/BS and MVP to coordinate system readiness for payment processing for many effected professions in Vermont including: hospitals, primary and specialty medical care, mental health, long term care, home health and independent providers including chiropractors, physical therapists, and others who current bill using ICD-9 code sets.  They are working with 20+ professional and trade associations – like ours - to coordinate these activities.

John Olson's role is to coordinate ICD-10 training activities for many of these same groups to lessen the cost, stress and hassle for all providers.  He has been in touch with several national coding organizations to see what they charge to provide training and maybe project management.  Most offer some sort of online courses for providers, onsite work with facility staffs, and maybe two day boot camps.  At least one has offered significant discounts if we coordinate our efforts.

He has developed a survey for health care providers that we plan to distribute through our website to assess provider readiness and they will share the results from our profession with us to better identify additional training and support for members.  They are asking me to distribute this email and survey link to our members as well as non-members, and also post the link on our website.

Please look for the survey in about a month.  They have also expressed an interest in presenting to small groups around the state which VNPA will organize and they will have a table at our Spring conference so that anyone who has not filled out a survey may do so then.
